Two girls and a child were killed when a dilapidated building collapsed in the popular Shubra district of Cairo.
According to Egyptian media, the building had been suffering from severe cracks due to the demolition of a neighboring building, which exacerbated its dangerous condition and led to its collapse.
A relative of one of the girls said that she “had been preparing her apartment with her fiancé for years,” awaiting their wedding.
A neighbor near the collapsed building in Shubra, Cairo, said that the building was among those scheduled for demolition to widen the street and that some houses in the street had been condemned.
Egyptian civil defense forces had recovered 3 bodies and transported an injured person to the hospital after the building collapse.
The Cairo Civil Protection Operations Room received a notification from the police about the collapse of a building in Shubra.
Immediately, a security force moved to the scene, accompanied by a number of ambulances. It was found that a four-story building had collapsed, and a security cordon was imposed around the incident.
The necessary legal measures were taken, and the civil defense was notified, which moved to the scene to remove the rubble. The Public Prosecution has taken over the investigations.
