Tourism most sector affected by political unrest: agency

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said in its monthly report issued Sunday on tourist activity in November 2013, that tourism has continued to decline. Only 673,000 tourists visited Egypt compared to 1.1 million during November 2012, a drop of 39 percent for the sector most affected by the political unrest in Egypt, according to the report.
The report said that Eastern Europe was the region with the most tourists arriving in Egypt, followed by Western Europe and the Middle East.
The number of tourists coming from Arab countries last November was 99,000 tourists, compared to 186,000 during November 2012, a decline of 46.6 percent.
According to the report, tourists spent a total of 5.1 million nights in Egypt during the month.
The number of tourist nights spent by Arab tourists was one million nights during November 2013, compared to 4.3 million during November 2012, a drop of 76.5 percent. The average number of nights spent in Egypt per tourist, according to the report, was 8.1 nights during November 2013, compared to 13.4 in November 2012.
