Sisi arrives in Gabon, meets president

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held talks with his Gabonese counterpart Ali Bongo Ondimba, on Wednesday evening, during which they discussed means of enhancing bilateral cooperation and ways in which to address the common challenges facing Africa. In addition they discussed regional issues of common concern.

The two presidents focused on economic relations between the various African economic blocs and organizations, means of boosting and developing bilateral relations between Egypt and Gabon, particularly in the fields of agriculture, health care, education and mining, and the contribution of Egyptian companies to the infrastructure development in Gabon.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Tarek Qabil, and his Gabonese counterpart signed a trade agreement to promote trade and economic relations between the two countries.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived in Tanzania on Monday for a 4-day tour to African countries including Rwanda, Gabon and Chad.

The tour comes as part of an initiative to strengthen ties with African countries as part of its foreign policy and an effort to further strengthen Egypt- African relations in all fields, particularly the commercial and economic fields.

Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, said during his meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, on Wednesday, that the economic and political relations with Ethiopia are strong and that the two countries are witnessing bilateral coordination that will serve the purpose of unity and the completion of joint ventures. Desalegn was warmly welcomed by Bashir on arrival at Khartoum Airport.

Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hirut Zemene, said her country appreciated Sudan’s position on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and announced a tripartite meeting soon with Egypt in Khartoum, to discuss the dam file.
