Seventy-five members of human trafficking organization arrested

The Administrative Control Authority announced the arrest of 75 government officials, members of the public and foreigners accused of human trafficking.

The authority said in a statement on Thursday that the arrest of the gang was the fruits of a 14-month investigation by authorities.

The suspects were charged with bribery and profiteering from their public positions, forging official documents, forging postage stamps and stamps of Egyptian government agencies and agencies of other countries, attracting illegal immigration, trafficking in people and the seizure of public and private money, according to the statement.

Prosecutor-general Nabil Sadek issued arrest warrants for the suspects and ordered an inspection of their headquarters, upon which 250 officers and officials from the Administrative Control Authority launched crackdowns on the suspects and their headquarters in Cairo, Giza, Gharbiya, Alexandria, Daqahliya and Kafr al-Sheikh, according to the statement.

The suspects were remanded in custody and minors who were found under in their possession have been handed over to their families or orphanages.
