Police injure, arrest 2 Sudanese on Egypt-Israel border

Egyptian border police injured two Sudanese nationals in a brief exchange of fire while the latter attempted to cross into Israel through Egypt's Rafah border terminal.

The two would-be migrants, whose weapons were seized by police, later told authorities that 29 of their colleagues had managed to cross into Israel.

According to a security source, the two Sudanese men were the first to start shooting.

In a related development, Egyptian authorities kept the Rafah crossing open to passengers and humanitarian aid crossing into the Gaza Strip for the 76th consecutive day.

A border source at the Rafah crossing said that 59,744 Palestinians had crossed the border since it was opened on 1 June following Israel's deadly assault on a Gaza-bound Turkish aid ship laden with humanitarian supplies.
