PM directs sorting of commodities held by Customs Authority for quick release

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has directed action to sort all commodities held by the Customs Authority to quickly release them in line with a gradual clearance plan.

This plan should take into consideration top-priority foodstuffs, medication and fodder, the premier said during a meeting with senior state officials earlier Sunday.

The meeting also took up efforts to secure strategic commodities and foreign currencies, said Cabinet spokesman Mohamed al-Homosani.

The prime minister reviewed some reports that put the total value of the goods held by the Customs Authority at about 1.3 billion dollars, Homosani added.
