Minister warns of decline in medical services

Minister of Health Ashraf Hatem warned today of a sharp drop in the availability of medical services over the next couple of months.

Hatem said in a statement that strategic reserves of medical supplies and medications for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiac disease will soon run out.

Surgeries for emergencies may also come to a stop as result of the decrease in supplies, which is due to protests by professionals impacting production processes.

Hatem urged employees at Egyptian and multinational companies operating in the field to immediately return to work.

The ministry is already consuming its strategic reserves, he said, adding that some private and multinational pharmaceutical companies have already resumed work, though only partially.

Hatem added that several hospitals recently stopped receiving patients after their medical teams were attacked.
