Libyan authorities fire at Egyptian sailors

One Egyptian sailor was shot and a further ten detained by the Libyan coast guard for entering Libyan regional waters.

Mohamed Abdel Hakam, assistant to the Egyptian Foreign Minister for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad, said Libyan coast guards pursued the Hajj Ramadan boat when it ignored orders to stop.

One sailor was injured as a result, Abdel Hakam added. The Libyan authorities seized the vessel.

The Egyptian embassy in Tripoli is currently investigating the issue along with the Libyans, said Abdel Hakam, who urged Egyptian sailors to respect international territorial agreements.
