Lebanese intelligence investigating death of Egyptian near Beirut

An Egyptian citizen named Abdel Latif Ahmad al-Dakhakhny, 24 years old, died on Sunday, while his brother was seriously injured, following a massive explosion in their home in the area of Darya. Dakhakhny's brother is currently in critical condition.
The cause of the bombing is as yet unknown. The case has been passed on to intelligence officials by judicial authorities amid suspicion that the Egyptian national may have been trying to make a bomb, a Lebanese security source revealed.
There are similarities between the improvised explosive device (IED) discovered in the Egyptian's family home and the IED used in a recent bombing in Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, the source told the press on Monday.
Lebanese authorities are currently interrogating the father, Ahmed Abdel Latif al-Dakhakhny, and his son. The father has been living in lebanon for 20 years. He works as an assistant to a local imam and is married to a Lebanese woman.
It is believed that the deceased was a follower of Salafi Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir, who ran away after the Lebanese army defeated his militant group in Sida in June.
