Hosting EGYPS 2022 levels Egypt to advanced countries in energy

Ayman Mosallam, a structural engineering and energy expert, said that Egypt’s hosting of Egypt Petroleum Show 2022 (EGYPS 2022) in the presence of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi gives an opportunity for Egypt to become one of the advanced countries in energy thanks to the qualifications it possesses.

During an interview with the privately-owned Sada al-Balad channel, on Tuesday, Mosallam added that water and energy will be the basis of the global political climate.

He pointed out that Egypt’s hosting of EGYPS 2022 sends a message to the world that Egypt is not only an energy-producing country, but one that has also  entered into and advancing its clean energy consumption.

Mosallam stressed that no country in the world has the tendency to become the world’s first in energy production like Egypt, especially after the opening of the largest solar power plant in Aswan with a capacity of 1.8 gigawatts.

He pointed out that Egypt was the first country in the world to use solar energy in 1918, specifically in the Maadi region, in the field of irrigation, before it stopped at the end of the First World War.

On Monday morning President Sisi inaugurated the fifth edition of EGYPS 2022.

The initiative is a combination of wide international and local participation of the ministers of petroleum and energy: heads of international and local companies, international oil and gas organizations, and petroleum industry experts.

The exhibition is the largest and most important international and regional gathering of the oil and gas industry in North Africa and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency Fatih Birol said that what Egypt has achieved during the past years is impressive, by benefiting from gas assets and switching to the electricity market.

Egypt was able to achieve a surplus after the deficit, he added during speech at EGYPS 2022, which made a difference in solar energy.
