Govt to expand cotton farming to meet rising demand

The government is planning to an increase the total area of cotton plantations from 284,000 to 379,000 feddans, according to senior sources at the Ministry of Agriculture.

The decision comes as a result of changes in the international market, where demand has soared for Egyptian cotton in the wake of a drop in the crop’s prices over the past years.

Meanwhile, the ministry also announced that 98,100 ardebs of cotton seed have been distributed across various provinces. The ministry has set aside another 614 ardebs for next year.
