Foreign Ministry contacts Libyan authorities to verify recent abduction of Egyptians

Spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Badr Abdel Aaty said Tuesday that the ministry is undergoing intensified dialogue with Libyan authorities to verify the abduction of Egyptians in Libya's city of Benghazi.

The ministry will seek their immediate release if the news is verified, he said.

A spokesman for the joint security room of Libya's city of Benghazi, Ibrahim al-Shara, said on Tuesday that unidentified gunmen kidnapped Egyptian workers in Sidi Younes, Monday, and that the Libyan authorities were searching for them.

The kidnapping was most probably to steal the workers' property or to force them work for free, he added.
