Electricity Ministry launches meter reading application via Google Play

Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity has launched its “Unified Readings Program” via Google Play on Thursday, an application that will allow users to monitor their home electricity meter and ensure the regular issuance of bills.

Subscribers of the Canal Company for Electricity Distribution and Upper Egypt Electricity Production companies, which serves the Red Sea, South and North Sinai, Sharqiya, Ismailia, Suez, Port Said, Qena, Luxor, Sohag and Aswan governorates, will be able to use the application.

The application will be gradually expanded to offer the same services to the rest of Egypt.

Ministry spokesperson Ayman Hamza said that the electricity sector will digitize all of its electricity services by the end of 2021.

Work toward this goal began last year, and is aimed at increasing public access to information about their usage, including statistics and services, while allowing them to easily submit inquiries and complaints to the ministry.

Hamza emphasized that these steps come within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to eliminate billing complaints, and to ensure the accuracy of electricity bills.

He added that Egypt’s electricity companies currently are able to investigate complaints received through hotline 121.
