Egypt seeks global partnerships to implement national AI strategy: Minister

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said that Egypt is seeking global partnerships to implement a national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI) within three to five years.

Talaat made the announcement during his participation in the first session of the 27th Arab Economic Forum, which was inaugurated by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Lebanese counterpart Saad Hariri in Beirut, Lebanon on Thursday.

The minister emphasized the role of the communications and information technology sector in contributing to economic and social development, alongside providing an integrated system that includes support for training, innovation and creativity, and implementing projects that contribute to create significant job opportunities.

Talaat said that the government is making great efforts to support technological trends and keep up with global developments to achieve the shift towards a digital economy.

He added that the government supports research and development activities, as shown by the Knowledge City set to be implemented in the New Administrative Capital, and work is underway to create an appropriate environment to attract international investments.

Talaat said that there are many success stories for companies operating in Egypt services of added value, including fields such as research and development, electronics design and integrated software.

He reviewed promising opportunities for investment in the communications and information technology sector, particularly the electronics industry, which is being localized by adding value to the various products.

The minister said that Egypt is keen to be present on the map of the manufacturing huge data centers.

He added that a large number of projects are being implemented in cooperation with state agencies and institutions through local and international partnerships to achieve digital transformation in order to rationalize state resources, improve the quality of services provided to citizens, combat corruption and achieve social justice.
