Egypt rearrests escaped Hizbullah operative

Egyptian security authorities on Monday returned a Hizbullah-linked convict to prison after recapturing him Sunday.

Hassan al-Manakhly was among 26 people convicted in April 2010 for plotting terrorist attacks in Egypt, particularly on tourist areas and ships passing through the Suez Canal.

Manakhly escaped along with thousands of inmates on 29 January from Marg prison, south of Cairo, taking advantage of the security void during the 25 January revolution.

Egypt's state-run TV and MENA news agency said security authorities placed Manakhly in Tora prison to complete his 10-year sentence. He was arrested after appearing in an interview on Sunday night on a private satellite channel.

Another prime suspect in the same terrorist plot, Mohamed Mansour, also known as Sami Shehab, had also fled prison. He was seen in February at a popular rally in southern Beirut, Hizbullah's stronghold.
