Egypt FM hold talks with Spanish, Hungarian, and Slovenian counterparts in Barcelona

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met his Spanish counterpart, Jose Manuel Albares on Monday, on the sidelines of the meetings of the foreign ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean in ​​Spain.

A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that the meeting discussed strengthening bilateral relations, especially in renewable energy, combating climate change, transport, health, tourism and increasing investments – in addition to addressing issues of common concern.

Shoukry also held separate talks with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto, and Slovenian counterpart Anze Logar, Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto, regarding bilateral cooperation, joint action, and continuing joint cooperation in facing growing international challenges.

Shoukry is in Barcelona to participate in the sixth regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, in addition to the third ministerial meeting of the European Union with the countries of the southern neighborhood.

During his speech before the sixth regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, he hailed Union for the Mediterranean as a vital institutional framework for regional cooperation across the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea in several areas – particularly the environment, climate change, economic and social development, digital transformation and the exchange of technical expertise.

He also emphasized the importance of increasing European investments in Egypt and the countries of the southern neighborhood, and enhancing the access of these exports to European markets to support their efforts in achieving development goals.
