Egypt attends tripartite summit to discuss the situation in Gaza

A tripartite summit was held in Paris on Tuesday between President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordanian King Abdullah II, wherein the three discussed the situation in the Palestinian territories.

President Sisi is also in the French capital to participate in a conference to support the process of democratic transition in Sudan, while the Jordanian monarch participated in the conference via video chat.

Macron said on Monday that he would work with President Sisi and King Abdullah II to produce a proposal for a ceasefire and open a possible path for talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

In related news, President Sisi met this morning with the Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa at his residence in Paris.

Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady said that Sisi expressed Egypt’s keenness on promoting bilateral relations with Portugal and activating joint cooperation at all levels.

The President also praised the current Portuguese Presidency of the European Union and its efforts in support of African issues, appreciating the close coordination between the two friendly countries on regional and international issues of common interest.

For his part, Costa expressed his country’s appreciation for the close friendship and cooperation Portugal has with Egypt, as well as its commitment to further strengthen relations and support Egypt in achieving economic development.

The Prime Minister also expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to prevent illegal immigration across its coasts, and for hosting millions of refugees on its lands without requesting any support from the international community.

The Presidential spokesperson said that the meeting witnessed a discussion of ways to enhance cooperation in a number of fields, especially tourism and trade, as well as consultations on developments in the regional situation in light of the great challenges facing the Middle East region.
