Deadline Thursday for parliamentary election monitoring

Social Solidarity Ministry has reiterated that the deadline for applicant organizations eager to monitor Egypt’s anticipated parliament elections is next Thursday, adding that it has so far received 22 applications since the first of August.
Permits had been handed to the 22 civil society organizations to monitor the polls in 13 provinces, including Cairo, the ministry announced, adding that the granted certificates still need final approval from the High Elections Commission.
The parliamentary elections, a vital aspect of the political roadmap adopted following Morsi’s overthrow, were postponed from March indefinitely after the Supreme Constitutional Court found parts of the electoral law unconstitutional.
An amended law is pending final approval by the presidency, after which a new date for elections could be scheduled.
Last month, Egypt’s presidency approved a law demracting electoral districts.
