At the request of Egypt, the permanent delegates of the Arab League held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday to discuss ways of supporting the implementation of the Palestinian reconciliation agreement and providing financial support to the Palestinians.
The Palestinian factions earlier this month signed a reconciliation agreement, which was sponsored by Cairo, to end divisions between Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah.
Oman’s Arab League representative Khalifa al-Harthy said the league is considering the formation of a follow-up committee to implement the terms of the agreement.
“Egypt plays a pivotal role in the reconciliation, and the Arab countries support this role,” he said, adding that the Palestinian factions are on the right track.
