Alexandria factory victims rise to 7 deaths, 10 injured

The number of victims in the collapsed textile factory incident in Alexandria has risen to seven killed and ten injured. A civil defense team was able to retrieve five bodies from under the rubble.

Around 50 workers were inside the six-story factory located in Moharram Bek, east of Alexandria, when it collapsed due to the bad weather conditions–including torrential rains–that rocked Egypt’s northern coast on Sunday.

The civil defense team continues their efforts to rescue the remaining victims.

Adel Labib, governor of Alexandria, plans to disburse LE10,000 to the families of the deceased, as well as undisclosed financial compensation to those injured.

Meanwhile, Mufid Shehab, former minister of state for legal affairs and parliamentary councils and newly-elected MP for the Moharram Bek district, vowed to pursue immediate compensation for the victims.
