186 protesters arrested following clashes outside Israeli Embassy

The military on Sunday arrested 186 people who attempted to break into the Israeli Embassy in Giza following rallies to mark Nakba Day, which marks the day the state of Israel was established.

A military police official said the arrested protesters will be questioned in military courts over charges of destroying public property and assaulting public officials carrying out their duties.

The same official said some of those arrested will be faced with other charges, such as rioting and thuggery.

The clashes that broke out on Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy lead to the injury of large numbers of protesters.

Security forces used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse hundreds of protesters who called for kicking out the Israeli ambassador, severing ties with Israel and opening the Rafah border crossing.
